History of the development of kayaking and canoeing in Uzbekistan

Rowing in Uzbekistan began to develop around 1935, but it received its recognition in 1955 after it was included in the program of the Summer Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR.

The Sports Committee of Uzbekistan decided to begin cultivating rowing in Karakalpakstan. Led the preparations for the 1st Spartakiad V.P. Grachev and K.V. Dergachev, who worked at factories in Tashkent and mastered the basics of rowing back in Russia. Assistance in preparation, together with the sports committee of Uzbekistan under the leadership of Mitrofanov, was provided by the societies “Pishchevik” (Pakhtakor), Spartak and “Torpedo”. Sports vessels were purchased. The main preparation was carried out on Lake Komsomolskoe, connected to the Kara-Kamysh reservoir and down the Ankhor River, where zonal competitions of the republics of Central Asia and Kazakhstan were held in May 1956.

In 1958, the first Championship of the Republic was held among the regions and the city of Tashkent. The national team, which then trained under the leadership of the master of sports N.V. Denisov, mainly consisted of rowers of the II and III categories.
